It is translated by the author from the original book, published in Japanese, as a volume of Information Sciences Series, Kyoritsu Publishing Company, 1985.

The aim of this book is to present the usage of the famous Akaike Information Criterion (AIC) to the Categorical Data Analysis. It may be regarded as an expansion of the ideas presented in the previous book of the same author, M. Ishiguro, G. Kitagawa: "Akaike Information Criterion Statistics" in D.Reidel, 1986. Special attention is given to the selection of variables, Bayesian binary regression and density estimation. The representation is based on the package CATDAP-02 and many examples. Fortran source of the programs is included with revision date: Oct. 1, 1988.

The book is useful for anybody interested in categorical data analysis and specially for students.
